Albinea

The castle

The parish churches

This is a modern elegant village on the first hills near Reggio Emilia, characterized by a mild inviting climate (extremely pleasant during summer nights), by rich gastronomic and shopping opportunities. Albinea is also famous for the quality of its remarkable jazz festival. Dominated by a charming castle (though private and inaccessible to tourists), Albinea presents a fascinating perspective on the plain: a special point of view, from the churchyard of St Mary's Nativity is suggested. Some other walks can lead you to Montericco, where you find the first Sanctuary devoted to Mary of Lourdes or to the village of Borzano with its ancient castle (transformed recently into a rural house) or, down the hill, accompanied by some speleological guides, to the terrific mouth of the Hole of the Mussina, a deep cave hosting important prehistorical traces.
