Rocca Stellata

Bondeno
This wonderful matildic pearl, isolated in the region of Ferrara, Bondeno, witnesses the powerfulness of the 'canusine' forces all over the Po plain. Its ancient difficult fight against its main ennemy, the water, is visible thanks to a complex weft of enbankements and channels disciplining such a precious ressource and such a terrible menace. The abundance of humid areas, greendykes and flourishing fields let the visitors enjoy the botanic and faunistic value of the territory.
Some meaningful monumental places are worth a visit as well. The centre of the town is dominated by a mediaeval bell tower and presents an interesting necklace of religious (like the Archipriest church, Paioli's oratory, San Giovanni's church...) and civil buildings (Bottazzi's palace). Stellata, not far from here, is the main attraction of the area, with its charming Rocca Possente, defending the passage on the Po river, and the ancient house of the Italian poet Ariosto. The epics of the fight engaging men against water is well represented by the scenographic napoleonic barrel, not far from the town.
