Frassinoro

San Pellegrino in Alpe

Sanctuary of the "Beata Vergine Assunta"
Frassinoro, characteristic centre of the 'Frignano' region, some ten km southern of Montefiorino, breaths the clear pure air of the higher mountains and offers (with Piandelagotti) a well equipped ski station. The sportive facilities and the mild natural climate encourage the summer visitors to enjoy the life in the historical village with its matildic traditions, explored every year during a costume festival. Beatrice, mother of Matilde, promoted the foundation of a benedictine abbey in Frassinoro, which became a primarly cultural and religious centre, to its destruction in 1429 by the hand of the duke of Modena. The surrondings offer some attractive walks, like the one to the sanctuary of Madonna di Pietravolta, devoted to the Madonna della Neve, XVIII century. Walking south, after the 'passo delle Radici', in Tuscany, you reach one of the most fascinating sites of the Apennines, San Pellegrino in Alpe.
