Montefiorino

Romanic parish of Rubbiano

The fortress
Is one of the main town of the mountainous western region near Modena, facing Reggio and the Secchia valley, called Frignano. Lying on the Matilde's way, Montefiorino is dominated by the powerful medioeval tower. Another monumental attraction dating to the Middle Ages is the charming tower of Poggio, while the small chapel of the Zerbini's oratory is more recent. The most meaningful monument of the area is the romanic parish of Rubbiano, very well preserved and not far from the centre. Montefiorino is also famous for being the heart of the first Repubblic organised by Partisans during World War II : the memory of those days is still alive in the local Museum of the Repubblic. From a naturalistic point of view the area is also very attractive: the rivers Dolo e Dragone cross all the region and even if the hills are not higher than 800 metres the Apennines are closer and generous of woods and flowery oasis. We suggest you a visit to the XVI century tower houses of Vitriola.
