The public
park of the Pinetina di Vezzano
The wood called 'Pinetina di Vezzano' is a naturalistic region,
with recreational facilities lying near the road statale 63,
a few km after Vezzano, at 16 km from Reggio, in an hillish
area (300 m high). Because it is enclosed, the entrance is possible
just during the opening times (closed on Mondays). The wood
hosts frequently schools and classes invited by its didactic
facilities and, on Sundays, by families, groups and naturalistic
tourists. The 54 hectars of the area are mostly covered with
black pines planted starting from 1906. Cypresses are also present,
wild pines and broadleaves typical of the area. There are turkish
oaks, oaks and ash trees and maples. The underwood is well developed,
with manna ashes, little oaks and blackthorns. Four walks cross
the wood (a border walk, the walk of moufflons, the walk of
bucks, the walk of the valley).
The park is also famous for its small zoo, with local animals
and dwarf goats. Caffeterias, pic-nic tables and other facilities
will make your visit even more pleasant.
Petrarca's temple in Selvapiana di Canossa
In Cerezzola, in the Enza valley, you can turn left in the Strada
provinciale n° 79 , direction Trinità, and after
some turnings you will find a small parking place that is the
starting point of a walk leading you, after some 500 metres,
at the temple devoted to the memory of one of the main italian
poets, the Tempietto del Petrarca. The soaring tower, started
in 1839, is a remembrance of the staying of the poet in Selvapiana
in 1343. Inside you will find a charming sculpture by Tommaso
Bandini, and some paintings of Francesco Scaramuzza. Not far
from it you find an information point, opened on week-ends during
summer holidays (any other day the temple will be closed) .
Anyway you will find the area, one of the main ressources of
the Enza valley and the matildic itinerary, extremely pleasant
for its charming walks and beautiful landscapes, for its literary
suggestions or for its peaceful frame, where you can enjoy a
pic-nic, on the wooden tables.
The public park of Roncolo
This fascinating park lies on the hills (at 350 m) at 16 km
from the town, on the way from Reggio to the Enza valley, leading
you to Roncolo's village, a few km before Quattro Castella.
The access to the park is free, no enclosures are present. This
park is a comfortable recreational area, not far from the town
but well equipped for sports and relax. Many schools like to
spend some time here. The 44 hectars of the park are covered
partially by black hornbeams and oaks, by manna ashes, hazel-nuts,
savage cherry trees, poplars and pines. Vast meadows, periodically
mowed, make the landscape more windy and friendly for visitors.
Lots of paths and passages cross the park and can be used for
walks, training and mountain-bike. The park is equipped with
a house for the guardian, a coffe-shop, a track, some barbecue
areas lit at night time, a gym way and a large meadow used as
a natural amphitheatre for summer concerts. |
