We suggest You
an interesting itinerary in the southern- eastern part of the
region of Reggio. From Reggio you take for Albinea, a matildic
village with a pleasant landscape and, a few km after, you get
to Scandiano, a remarkable centre where you can visit an ancient
fortress and the house of Lazzaro Spallanzani. Pass through
the matildic municipality of Casalgrande (costume festival in
the castle on the 7 July) and reach Castellarano, a charming
walled village (third week of September, wine festival). Next
stop will be after the crossing of the Secchia valley, Toano,
with its matildic parish and some fascinating villages (the
parish of Massa, the wooden altar by the Ceccati in Cavola,
Manno's court, the tower bell of Corneto). If you can take your
time and have a slower tour, do reach Scandiano after Albinea
and go southern to Regnano (a visit to the vulcanic springs
is suggested) and then eastern to the matildic village of Viano.
We suggest you a walk, just after Regnano to admire the ancient
village of S.Maria in Castello.
