Recently, by the
law 44 of 1989, the Region Emilia-Romagna gave dignity and legitimation
to an historical and cultural area, set around the town of Reggio
Emilia, embracing lands and regions from Parma to Modena to
Ferrara, all characterized by an analogus landscape and by similar
ancient fortifications. A private-public society was founded
then, at the Castle of Matilde di Canossa on the 5 March 1994,
to give emphasis to the majestic beauty of this area. These
charming hills, grand in their simple and severe beauty, spotted
by old castles, ancient parishes and historical villages, still
flourish of colours and beauties and impressive oenogastronomical
traditions, memory of the vigourous life animating the area
in the Middle ages.
A cultivated and passionate national and international tourism
qualifies these lands as one of the most sublime corners of
the emilian region.
The charming traditions of the age of Matilde di Canossa, exhibited
during the costume festivals, contributed to harmonize the cultural
identities of the area while focalizing on the beautiful figure
of their countess and on her times, when these hills hosted
the lively heart of the european culture, between the XI and
the XII centuries.
