The wines of the hills

The slogan of a cave that lies at the feet of the hills near Reggio says that "Bacchus loves the hills". It is true that the ground of the hills, as it is worldly known, less fat but more compact then the one of the plain, is particularly fit for wine production. To exploit the precious wine production together with the food offerings, the region has created the 'Way of the Wines and Flavours' of the hills of Scandiano and Canossa, that is partly coincident with the matildic way. The typical wine of the region between Reggio and Modena is the "Lambrusco" from the name of the sharp wild winegrapes growing near the woods of the plain. Some other sorts of wines are present on the territory, to prepare some exquisite whites like Sauvignon, Pinot, Chardonnay, Malvasia or reds like the Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino, Malbo 'gentile' or 'novello'.
